Principal Investigator position in Environmental Health Sciences
The Wadsworth Center, New York State Department of Health, is seeking an outstanding research scientist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to establish a competitive, extramurally funded, research program in the general area of Environmental Health Sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program and lead a public health laboratory focused on organic environmental testing (https://wadsworth.org/programs/ehs/environmental-organic-chem). The independent research program may be at the intersection of mass spectrometry, organic analytical chemistry, environmental toxicology, and public health, and should complement existing strengths within the Center. The successful applicant will join an interactive group of research scientists, which will expand the Center’s existing world-class program in environmental health sciences (www.wadsworth.org/research/areas/environmental-health).
Research interests may include (but are not limited to):
- Emerging organic contaminants
- Microplastics/nanoparticles
- Novel mass spectrometry applications
- Cheminformatics

The successful applicant will receive a start-up package, 12-month salary, and access to state-of-the-art instrumentation, including Gas Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS/MS), Liquid Chromatography–Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS), High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS) (Orbitrap). An optional joint academic appointment is available to appropriately qualified candidates through the Department of Environmental Health Sciences, based within the University at Albany, College of Integrated Health Sciences (www.albany.edu/cihs/environmental-health-sciences).

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: master’s degree and six years of professional research experience in an appropriate field. A doctorate in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications: a doctorate with 5 years relevant experience managing a successful research team or public health program, as demonstrated by research accomplishments and publications, and expertise in the theory and operation of high-resolution mass spectrometric instrumentation.
